Church Marriage Papers;
The priest will advise them on the documents required for the marriage. In general these will
be:
- A recent Certificate of Baptism
- A Certificate of Confirmation
- A
completed Pre-Nuptial Enquiry Form
- A Letter of Freedom from
each parish where the person ro be married has lived for six months or more since the age of 16 years.
- A Pre-Marriage Course Certificate.
- In the case where one partner is not a Roman Catholic, Letter of Dispensation from the local Bishop will also
be required.
- A minimum of three months notice is required
by the state.
Attenndance at a Pre-Marriage Course is
also required. A Pre-Marriage Course normally consists of four two hour sessioins, where topics such as communication,
God's place in the relationship, expectations and experience of marriage, family life and responsibilities etc.are discussed
in a relaxed and informal way.
Because of the present demand
for courses couples will need to make timely application-normally up to ONE YEAR in advance.
Courses are conducted by ACCORD at Arus de Brun, Newtownsmith, Galway and information and application

Weddings in Rome

1. Couples wishing to get married in Roame through the Irish College must personally
make contact by phone or letter with the Rector, Msgr. Liam Bergin. His address and telephone number is:

2, All Church Documents must be forwarded through the Diocesan
Office to the rector of the Irish College, at least six months prior to
the wedding.
3. The couple must also obtain a document called "Nulla Osta" from the State.
The couple can obtain this document by writing to THe Depoartment of Foreign Affairs, 80 St. Stephen's Green, Dublin 2, stating
that they wish to be married in Rome. The Department will send out the necessary application form which, when completed,
must be returned to the Department.
